Why Become A Member?

Policy and Service Development
The Association is playing a crucial role in bringing community mental health and addiction sector issues to the attention of the government through its continued presence and advocacy at provincial and regional levels. The Association has representation on key government policy committees and planning groups where we will continue to act as the collective voice of our membership. Engagement with MPPs, regional ministry offices, the media and other health sectors by the Association and its members will be the key to bringing the very real issues of the field forward.

Knowledge Exchange and Educational Events
An Annual Conference and bi-annual Community of Practice meetings include topical seminars where members can learn and meet other members to share ideas and information. Events during the year on pressing issues, new initiatives and challenges for addiction and mental health providers are also available to organizations.

Insurance and Health Benefits
The Association Health Insurance Program is very competitive, offering equal or better benefits than others in the field at lower costs. These benefits include health, dental, life and disability insurance as well as comprehensive liability insurance for all aspects of an organization, from Board of Directors and staff to property.

Association Legal Assistance Retainer Package
For members of the Association Insurance Program, this service provides immediate legal advice by phone or by correspondence on a range of issues, from personnel to program liability.

Information and Networking
The Association acts as a clearing house for day-to-day operation and provides resources for members. Bi-weekly, our E-Bulletin newsletter keeps members up to date on important events, trends, Association activities and networks. Also, periodic ALERTS inform members of items such as policy changes, important events, etc.

Member Driven, Member Accountable
The Association has many ways for members to have input into its priorities, policies and decisions. These include General Meetings, regional meetings, surveys, feedback through the E-Bulletin, calls to our office and calls to our volunteer leadership and committees. Major policy decisions are made by our members at General Meetings. The Association has demonstrated a strong and ongoing commitment to this principle.
